Nexus Smart ID

Nexus Smart ID is a modular workforce identity platform that unifies access management, federation, credential lifecycle management, and enterprise PKI capabilities. Its main modules include Smart ID Digital Access (for SSO and MFA), Smart ID Identity Manager (for lifecycle and workflow automation), and Smart ID Certificate Manager (for PKI and certificate issuance).

Key Capabilities

• Standards-based federation (IdP or broker): The Digital Access module supports SAML 2.0, OpenID Connect, and OAuth 2.0, allowing it to act as an Identity Provider (IdP) or broker to external IdPs for seamless SSO and federation.

• MFA and passwordless authentication: Offers built-in FIDO2/WebAuthn support, Smart ID Mobile App for push approvals and online/offline OTP, and support for OATH/TOTP tokens.

• Smartcard and virtual smartcard credentials: The Smart ID Desktop App enables virtual smart card provisioning for Windows logon and other certificate-based use cases, extending PKI-backed authentication to endpoints.

Limitations

• SCIM coverage: Documentation references an SCIM plugin in orchestration examples, but there is no clear confirmation of a general-purpose SCIM 2.0 provider with standardized schemas and endpoints across the full suite.

• Advanced OAuth profiles: Public materials focus on core OAuth 2.0/OpenID Connect functionality; there is insufficient information to confirm support for advanced profiles like PAR, DPoP, or mTLS-bound tokens.

• Operational complexity: Although components can be cloud-connected, many deployments are customer-managed, requiring expertise in PKI operations, HSMs, high availability, and security audits.
